Ten Days of Feed 3! Starting with: Cover Reveal!

Feed 3 comes out on December 15th and this post should have gone up yesterday. But let’s pretend that today is the 5th and not my mom’s birthday (Happy birthday, Mom! She doesn’t read my blog, haha, but if she happened to glance at it, I would definitely want her to know that she MUST have a happy birthday.).

I have a bunch of stuff planned to celebrate the long awaited release of this book. So I want to get right into it.

First of all, if you’re not signed up for my mailing list and you’re a fan of my Feed series (also known as the Fooko series), then you should know that if you DO sign up for it, you will receive a copy of “Feed 0.5 (Genesis)”, which is only available to my newsletter subscribers. Here’s the link to do that.

Secondly, the cover of the new book!

Pretty great, eh? Yeah, it sticks with the style. Thematically speaking.

Feed 3 is going to be available in paperback and as a Kindle edition. It won’t be available from any other retailer except Amazon. If it ever is, I’ll let you know. For now, you’ll be able to read it on Kindle Unlimited. It’s going to be on sale for 99 cents for the first week before it goes up to $2.99.

OK, one more thing. Feed 1 and 2 are currently not available in paperback because I’m still reformatting them into the smaller (and better) size. As soon as they’re back on sale as paper back, I’ll let you know.

Cover Release for Feed 3

Feed 3 is gearing up for publication! So, with that in mind I wanted to throw the cover out there for your eyeballs to ogle and your brains to sup from.

Sup from. Sick.

I mean, that should be “from which for your brains to sup.” That . . . that looks wrong. Let me see. “for your brains from which to sup.” Still . . . just, not right.

Who cares? I will use the awkward phrase if I want!

Anyway, the Feed 3 cover is pretty awesome. I mean, what I love about it is the theme of surveillance, in this kind of old school propaganda look. That sort of propaganda is part of the corporate/government state within the books. So it’s fun to carry it out into the real world. *Shiver*

And remember, Feed 3 is ALL NEW MATERIAL. Some new characters turn up and things get a little more twisty-turny. I think you’ll have a hard time deciding who is bad and who is good, because, isn’t that the way it always is? I mean, who is all bad, like in real life? There’s a few out there, but hopefully most of us don’t have to hang out with that sort of abhorrent monster. Right?

Godfrey*. I hope not.

Hmm. I could probably sit here and ramble on about book 3 and 4 all night. But I’ll save it. Maybe for the cover reveal for book 4! OOOOOOH.

So here’s the cover for Feed 3.

*Godfrey is a non-swear my mother likes to use. It’s similar to its brother “Gadfrey.” Or “Gad,” which she also uses.

Feed Re-Release Cover Reveal!

Some of you may have heard that I’m re-packaging Feed. This is an experiment to see how the more serialized version of book-selling goes. There were also some major and minor changes to the first book and I wanted to transition those who’ve already read the first one so that when they pick up the second book, they’re not totally shocked. The big news then is that the second book is done!

The other news is that I’ll be releasing things all over again! Yay!

So, first off, is that Feed 1 (there will be Feed 2, Feed 3, and Feed 4 after that!) is done and ready. Not *that* much has changed, but I needed to announce that there *are* some changes. Keep that in mind if you get the new version.

That said, I’ll be releasing it fully in, two weeks, possibly sooner. It has about 110 pages, and will be available in both e-book and paperback. The paperback version won’t be released at the same time as the e-book, but will come out about two weeks after the e-book version comes out.

So here’s the new cover! I’d love to hear if you guys think it’s an improvement!

Boat Made of Bone Blog Tour

The blog tour is almost ready to wrap up. I haven’t been keeping great tabs on it–the reasons are varied. Here’s an announcement: I’m twenty weeks pregnant and with that goes the trouble of focusing on just about anything that isn’t taking care of my 2.5 year old and trying to not succumb to the misery of pregnancy! So, I count it as a victory that I even set up ANY marketing related to the book’s release.

I know some people have come to my blog to see if there’s supposed to be a sequel to A Boat Made of Bone. The easy answer is yes, that’s why on the cover and on the Amazon listing (and Smashwords, I believe), the title includes Book One of the Chthonic Saga. As more reviews come in for BMOB, part of me wonders why the heck I WOULD write a sequel. Evidently my instincts are all wrong and also, BMOB is just like every other demon book out there (LOL).

That’s my fault, I guess, because I don’t always write precisely in genres I read. I write whatever I want and if it falls into a genre thats I haven’t fully explored as a reader, I figure it doesn’t matter. Some writers will say that’s a big mistake. Maybe they’re right. As I’ve begun to write the sequel, I’m struggling to get over the hurdles of all those negative voices that tell me it doesn’t matter anyway, that I’m not a good writer, that my characters are unlikeable and unrelatable.

Some of these issues are magnified because I’m pregnant. For those who’ve been pregnant, I imagine this is a familiar refrain. For those who haven’t, the problem is sorting through the ten million additional feelings coursing through my head and body and discerning which ones are real and which are a result of the extra (evil) hormones created from being pregnant. I’m telling you, that’s a hilarious maze of mirrors. Haha.

In June, if all goes well enough (my last pregnancy, they didn’t, so I have a bit of PTSD from that), I’ll have my brain and my body back and I expect to be (more) sound of mind than I am now. And I’ll decide whether or not to leave A Boat Made of Bone out in the market or if I should take it down and count it as a momentary scourge of my career as an indie author.

For what it’s worth, I loved writing it. I loved Will, Kate, Audra, Malcolm, Ferg, all of them. I loved the story and thought that it worked. So that’s a big difficulty–do I trust myself and my instincts or do my gut feelings have shit for brains (I borrow from High Fidelity)? I’m worried that I’m the most untrustworthy party around.

In any case, all things are possible. And these experiences are teaching me lessons I should know. I can’t say these things that kind of hurt are wastes of my time because life is evolution and I’m growing. In the meantime, don’t forget to sign up for the $75 gift card giveaway as part of the blog tour. I really want to give it someone who’ll appreciate it!

All the love!

Nicole

‘A Boat Made of Bone’ Cover Reveal

It’s finally here, the day you’ve been waiting for! Well, at least I’ve been waiting for. The moment I saw the initial draft of this, I couldn’t wait to share it. I almost spoiled everything and posted it immediately for all the world to see.

The cover was done by the flipping amazing Nathalie Suellen of Brazil. She’s worked on covers for writers from major publishers like Simon and Schuster, Harper, Random House, and Penguin, amongst many others. She’s been featured in magazines like Imagine FX, IVEA, and Photigy. I feel pretty lucky that she agreed to work on my cover. She’s not only a phenomenal designer/artist, but she’s also friendly and easy to work with.

So, here’s the cover! Make sure you click on the link to add A Boat Made of Bone to your Goodreads shelf. It’s scheduled to come out on January 14th.

“Laurie’s Thoughts” Reviews Blue Hearts of Mars

Book shelves

Another great review is up! I can’t believe how insightful and some of these reviewers are! I mean, they sum up the story a thousand times better than I do. And I sincerely appreciate all their hard work SO much. I know they like to read, but I feel extremely grateful that they’d read and review my book.

A lot of them are on Blogger, where I used to host my blog and website. But I haven’t been able to post comments on a Blogger post for ages (one reason I left Blogger), which is why I haven’t been able to post comments on the reviews. I wonder if it’s just me? I hope others have experienced this problem . . . because if not . . . well.

Here’s a quote from Laurie’s review. Read the rest (and a character interview with Hemingway) here:

“This is a well-told story that takes a fantastical concept and logically develops it so that the reader falls under its spell.  I particularly liked the way in which it examines, under the guise of science fiction, how cultural beliefs and attitudes can seem so right but might actually be based on faulty premises and outright clever lies.   It reads quickly and easily; I was rapidly drawn into Retta’s adventures.  I loved the description of Mars and its various domed cities connected by high-speed trains running through a network of tunnels.  This is a mesmerizing story from an author whose imagination seems limitless.  I am looking forward to more adventures and finding out what sort of backlash Retta and Hemingway must endure next in their quest to reveal the truth.”

Thanks Laurie!

New Blog Tour Reviews

Shell BookshelfTwo blogs have posted their reviews of Blue Hearts of Mars as part of the blog tour. Here are some quotes from them. Follow the links to read the full reviews. Thanks to Michelle and Ryan for reading and reviewing my book. 🙂 I appreciate it so much!

“I am not sure if I can express how much I adored the main character, Retta. She is outspoken, sarcastic at times, and the way she stood up for others really endeared her to me. I love the way the book starts out. The opening section really hooked me in and got me excited about the subject matter of the book–androids.”

From Books-Marks the Spot.

“I was hooked on the social issues going on with android and human population. I loved that this book brought a rather interesting question to the forefront, ‘What makes a human truly human?’ Is it the sum of all of our parts or is it something more? It’s a very big question and its not one that comes with an easy answer.”

From In Libris Veritas.
